Skills Innovation Hub
. . . anchored in excellence . . .
The seed for the Durnacol Skills Innovation Hub development was initially sown when Ms Alice Pool was approached by Mark Durham, Deputy-Director LED of the Amajuba District Municipality in his capacity as a stakeholder in the Durnacol Community Forum (DCF), and in her capacity as the owner of QPD Consultants (Pty) Ltd - a Private FET College. This joining of minds was to provide the much needed impetus for the development of the Hub. Ms Pool, in her dual capacity as the Managing Director of Blue Horison Properties 53 (Pty) Ltd, immediately got the ball rolling and was soon to actively live out the company’s motto in that “The Sky is NOT the Limit”, by approaching and sourcing funding from the Development Bank of Southern Africa.
The involvement of the Dannhauser Local Municipality and the Amajuba District Municipality was a logical consequence of the DCF involvement that ensured the successful and remarkable transformation of buildings in the ex-mining town into a state of the art skills training and development institution.
Management of the Hub appreciate the exceptional way members of the community and the students, staff and management of the Hub embraced the concept of the development of a condemned facility to regain its historical and cultural significance.
